AI guardrails and the confidence score

Why some drafts are auto-held, and how to adjust the threshold.

Every AI draft has a confidence score between 0 and 100. The score reflects how sure Vela is that it has the right context, the right tone, and the right recipient.

What the threshold does

By default any draft scoring below 75 is held for review with a yellow "needs attention" badge. Drafts above 75 go straight into the Inbox queue ready to approve.

Changing the threshold

Settings → AI guardrails — slide the threshold up to 90 if you want only the most confident drafts surfaced, or down to 60 if you want more visibility into edge cases.

Hard never-rules

Regardless of confidence, Vela will never:

  • Send mail to a recipient not in the original thread.
  • Forward attachments that weren't in the original message.
  • Reply to a message marked as legal/HR/confidential in subject or labels.
  • Send a draft that mentions a dollar figure the contact didn't already mention.
