MFA is required on every Vela account. The first time you sign in after May 2026 you'll be walked through TOTP enrolment before you can reach the dashboard.
What you need
An authenticator app on your phone: Microsoft Authenticator, Authy, 1Password, Google Authenticator, or any other TOTP-compatible app. We don't support SMS — SIM-swap attacks are too common, and TOTP works offline.
First-time enrolment
- Sign in with your email and password as usual.
- Vela prompts you to Set up authenticator.
- Open your authenticator app and scan the QR code (or tap the manual-entry key).
- Type the current 6-digit code back into Vela to confirm.
From then on, every sign-in asks for a fresh 6-digit code after your password.
Already had MFA enabled?
Nothing changes. You'll keep using the same authenticator app you set up.
Lost your authenticator app
If you've changed phones or lost the device with your codes, contact support from the email address on your Vela account. We verify identity against:
- the billing email on file
- your last Vela invoice amount and date
- (for MSP partners) a confirmation message from a second authorised contact on the partner record
Once verified, support resets MFA on your account so you can re-enrol on next sign-in. The whole process typically takes one business day.
